January 1, 2021 – dtac revealed data usage during the New Year celebration welcoming the Year of the Golden Ox. The top province for data consumption is Bangkok. Network monitoring also finds Facebook remains the most popular app during the New Year holiday.

Mr. Prathet Tankuranun, Chief Technology Officer, Total Access Communication PCL or dtac, said “The peak hour period was from 20:00-21:00 Hrs. on New Year’s Eve or December 31, 2020. To support this festive season, dtac upgraded the network for increased high-speed internet use to satisfy the festive season’s greater need for connectivity and support social distancing. Furthermore, dtac has launched network services on 700 MHz, which is expected to expand the network’s rural and indoor coverage for a superlative network experience”

dtac’s usage data revealed:

• The top province for data consumption is Bangkok.
• The top data-consuming provinces by in each region are Chiang Mai in the North, Ubon Ratchathani in the Northeast, Ratchaburi in the West, Samut Prakan in Central Thailand (excluding Bangkok), and Songkhla in the South.
• The 5 most popular apps during the New Year holidays are 1. Facebook 2. YouTube 3. TikTok 4. Instagram and 5. LINE.

dtac prepared for the surge in usage by expanding the network’s rural and indoor coverage on 700 MHz and tripling capacity at high-traffic sites using massive MIMO technology.
