dtac Network Ready for Long Thai New Year Holidays

Temporary network sites rolled out at busy hotspots

April 11, 2022 – dtac is gearing up its network for a busy Thai New Year holiday, deploying mobile cell sites and technological optimization at tourist hotspots across the country to help customers stay connected 24/7 whether in remote areas or across busy homecoming routes.

Among the notable sites are Prathat Wayo Temple in Chachoengsao province, Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat in Phitsanulok province, Ao Nang Beach in Krabi and many locations in Chiangmai.

Ekkaphon Rueanphit, the administrative officer at Prathat Wayo Temple, said that during the Songkran festival Thais commonly visit temples for prayers and merit-making, which invariably leads to crowding, particularly during the week of April 11–17. Generally, there are more than 10,000 people visiting the temple. As so many people converge, connectivity becomes extremely important, whether for communication, news updates or online payments.

Phrathat Wayo Temple is one of the most picturesque tourist destinations in Chachoengsao province, with a beautiful bell-shaped pagoda decorated with yellow, blue and white tiles. Inside the pagoda are many Buddha images and oil paintings depicting scenes from the Buddha’s life. There is also a staircase to the rooftop where visitors can enjoy a view of the surrounding sights, such as Lat Krathing, a small reservoir situated amid lush greenery that is perfect for relaxation.

“This temple is a popular destination for worshippers seeking luck and prosperity,” Mr. Ekkaphon said, adding that the temple also does live broadcasts of various festival activities via the dtac network, allowing worshippers to pray from anywhere.

Prathet Tankuranun, Chief Technology Officer of Total Access Communication Plc or dtac, said: “The Songkran festival is a time when family and friends gather and reunite for traditional celebrations, and dtac is ready to serve customers 24/7 during this busy period. To do this, temporary mobile cell sites have been rolled out to support the spike in connectivity demand across the nation.”

Beyond peak festive periods, dtac continues to expand its network for both 4G and 5G services. Recently, dtac has installed more than 12,750 base stations on the 700 MHz frequency band for 4G service nationwide and 5G service in some areas.

In addition to increased connectivity, the dtac customer service team is also ready to serve customers during the long holiday period. Call center officers are on standby 24 hours a day, and can even be reached via social media channels, such as Facebook and Line. Customers travelling abroad can reach call center agents via +66 2 202-8100 for assistance free of charge.
