dtac warns customers not to share OTP

June 2, 2020 – dtac warns its customers to stay vigilant against phishing scams, offering services from dtac and asking for password required for transactional banking. According to the recent news about a pharmacist who received a call from a scammer, claiming to be a mobile operator and informing her that there was a duplication in her phone number. The scammer offered to fix this problem and the victim believed, which led to sharing OTP (One-time Password) used to provide security in online transactions. The victim’s OTP was later used for e-banking, transferring money to the scammer’s account as reported in the news. dtac urges customers to stay vigilant against online gaming scams

May 19, 2020 - dtac is warning its customers against an increasing number of phishing scams. In some instances, scammers falsely claim that they are  dtac employees through Facebook Messenger, asking to help customers for a balance check or providing special offers., The scammers will ask for the customer’s phone number and purchase content (such as in-game items) billed to that number. The content provider then sends a One-Time-Password (OTP), usually a four-digit number, by SMS to the victim. The scammers then ask the victims to share the OTP as part of the false dtac service. With the OTP, purchase of the items is confirmed and billed to the victim’s phone number but the scammer keeps the purchased items. Victims may not notice until they receive their phone bill. The full process is as follows: The scammers create a fake account claiming to be a dtac employee, copying dtac logos and artwork from various online sources. The scammers reach out through Facebook Messenger in order to offer very attractive special deals. The scammers ask for the customer’s phone number. dtac Offers Free SIMs to Returning Thais

April 30, 2020 – Total Access Communication Public Company Limited or dtac is supporting Thais returning to Thailand by offering free dtac SIMs with unlimited data for 14 days, allowing them to contact their families and loved ones during their two-week quarantine. The state quarantine is under the responsibility of the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Public Health in consultation with staff from the Department of Disease Control who provide information on disease prevention and control. dtac reports year-on-year growth, performance pressured by COVID-19

24 April 2020 – Total Access Communication PLC. or dtac reported performance for Q120 with year-on-year growth in quarterly service revenues excluding IC and net profit, but with a revenue decline quarter-on-quarter due to an impact from COVID-19 situation in the second half of the quarter. Sharad Merohtra, dtac’s Chief Executive Officer, said “Our performance pre-COVID was in line with our targets and ambitions.  However, the outbreak affected us mainly on tourist, acquisition and outbound roaming.  The early signs of economic distress are also leading to spending optimization across customer segments.  We are taking actions to mitigate the impact, while leveraging opportunity to accelerate digitization and continuing to strengthen our network towards 5G.  The situation is changing rapidly and we will be adapting accordingly in order to connect our customers to what matters most. At the end of Q120, total subscriber base stood at 19.6 million with a subscriber loss of 1.0 million during the quarter from a decline in prepaid from aggressive competition and COVID-19 situation, and a decline in postpaid from one-time clean-up.
